Runner Spotlights #44

Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend! We've been trying to have fun around the thunderstorms. We are all tired of this rain stuff! We did spot this cute little guy in our yard! The boys loved him!

It's time for another runner spotlight! If you are interested in being spotlighted on my blog please email me at mindy@roadrunnergirl.com. I would love to feature you! You don't have to have a blog to be spotlighted...you just have to be a runner! :-)

Today I am spotlighting Liz from Liz for a Day! Liz recently returned to the US from working overseas. She's seen (and ran) parts of the world that I can only imagine seeing (and running)! Keep reading to learn more about her!

Name: Liz Hall
State: Florida

When and why did you start running? I originally started running to keep my weight down, but I really enjoy it now. It has become a great time to meditate.

What is your favorite race and race distance? My favorite race was the Zombie run when I was living in Kabul, Afghanistan. I ran the 10K distance. The weather was perfect, I ran with a bunch of my buddies and I didn't die. :-) I think 10K is a good distance for me.

What is your race day routine? I don’t really have a routine. I try to eat light the night before.  I eat super light or not at all the morning of the race. I think I would have more energy if I ate, but it never works out for me to have enough time. Plus I’m so excited, I usually just want to get to the start line and get the show on the road.

What is your most favorite piece of running gear? My headphones. I have some Bose mini headphones and the sound is awesome. I go into my own world when I put those on. The music pushes me on to my goals for the day. There is nothing like that music zone.

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your running? I do take a multi vitamin, but I’m not on any specific diet. I’m vegetarian and that is as close to a diet as I would like to be, although I could lose a few pounds.

What do you wish you’d known when you first started running? Like most runners, I wish I would have know about the importance of having good running shoes. It makes a world of difference. Running on bad shoes is like riding in a car with flat tires. I don’t run unless I have my fresh running kicks on.

What is your fondest running memory? My fondest memory was a terribly hilly, hot and muggy 5K I did last summer in Orlando. There was this young boy named Luke that I was unofficially running against, I didn't know it at the time. He stayed arms reach in front of me the whole way. At the end of the race, he said he tried to let me pass him back at the water station.  I thought that was so funny and cute. Sometimes the fun comes in the form of people you meet. I love the running community.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you? I kind of put it all out there on my blog. There isn't much people don’t know about me. I guess it would be that I’m a grandmother. I don’t really talk about that. I must admit, I have a baby face that doesn't show my age at all. I’m a sexy, running grandmother. :-)
