Solo 10K!

This past weekend most of my running friends were running a local 5K. I had already committed to do the Walk to Defeat ALS with my friend Lisa so I couldn't do the 5K. But I knew I wanted to get some type of long run in...especially since I didn't know how long the walk was going to be. I decided to run at least 5 miles...6 if I felt like it. And yes...I would run before the walk.

Looking at the weather, the temperature was supposed to be in the 50's. That's PERFECT running weather! I also knew that this would probably be the last time I would see those temps in a while. It's really starting to get hot here on the Gulf Coast!

I headed out around 6:30 am. The temperature felt great! I was hoping for a great run! Since I was running this one solo I put my ear buds in and started listening to a book on tape. It's one of my best strategies to overcoming long run boredom!

The run started out great. I had to keep slowing my pace down so I wouldn't wear myself out. Around mile one I passed some of the houses that had gotten flooded from all the rain we had last week. One of the houses already had ripped out wet carpet out by the street. My heart went out to these people. Then I saw a field in between two houses that looked like a lake! It was still flooded so much!

The rest of the run was pretty uneventful. I enjoyed my surroundings while running and listening to my book. Around mile 4.5 I was feeling great so I decided to go ahead and run 6 miles. I love it when that happens! :-) I ended up running 6.2 to make it a 10K!

Once the run was over I walked a few minutes to cool down. I was just crossing the road to head into my neighborhood when I heard someone call my name. I turned around and saw someone running. I was unsure of who it was so I crossed back over the road to find out. It was my friend Christina! It was great to see her! We talked for a minute and then she continued on her run.

Overall this was a great run! And running is the BEST way to start my Saturday!

QOTD: Are you a morning runner or night runner? Do you run long on Saturdays or Sundays?
