Fitness Friday...Easing Back Into It!

So it's been a few weeks since I've done a Fitness Friday post. Yes there's a reason for that....I've been trying to rest and recover from my knee injury. I've been seeing Dr. Justin twice a week for treatment and he has helped me so much! I am so happy to report that for the first time in two weeks I have zero pain in my knee! Yay!!! I recommend Dr. Justin for ALL sports injuries, back pain, neck pain, etc. He is awesome! From now on I will be going to him for any aches and pains that occur (which hopefully won't happen too often).

While recovering I have continued to do my #plankaday. I've also biked a few times at the gym (with Dr. Justin's permission) and started the 100 pushups program again. So even though I haven't been able to run I have been doing what I can. I definitely didn't want to become a couch potato lol!

So here are my workouts for this week (although they aren't much at least it's something).

  • Saturday- #plankaday 1:00, walked 2 miles at the Santa Run
  • Monday- #plankaday 1:26, 12 pushups
  • Tuesday- #plankaday 1:00
  • Wednesday- #plankaday 1:35, 45 minutes on the recumbant bike, 16 pushups
  • Thursday- #plankaday 1:32
  • Friday- #plankaday 1:00, 22 pushups

So there it is! Not pretty but not bad for someone recovering from an injury! Tomorrow I have my last long run for marathon training before tapering. I will be running/walking (per Dr. Justin's orders) 20 miles. Hopefully the knee is going to do just as well as it did for the half last Sunday! And hopefully I will get my endurance back quickly!

The Weekly Chase...Another Go Around!

It's Monday and that means it's time for The Weekly Chase! What is the Weekly Chase? It is all about setting goals for the week and going after them!

Here are my goals from last week:

  • Goal #1: No snacking after 9:00. Whoop whoop!!! I did it!!! I am so proud because this one was super hard for me!
  • Goal #2: Stretch and foam roll every day. I was about 75% successful with this one. Gonna keep working at it.
  • Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. 50% success...gotta keep at this one!
  • Goal #4: Restart the 100 pushups challenge. I did day 1....and that was it. :-( Redo this week.
  • Goal #5: Follow Dr. Justin's orders for my knee. 100% success!!! I followed all his instructions and my knee felt a lot better after my half marathon yesterday than I thought it would!!! Yay!

So here are the goals I am focusing on this week (some are the same as last weeks because I want to conquer them completely or just make sure I am continuing to be successful with them):

Goal #1: No snacking after 9:00. I think this will help me not gain weight. If I keep snacking so much at night I will gain weight and I don't want that to happen. So this is going to be a recurring goal for me.

Goal #2: Stretch and foam roll every day. I believe this is very important and should be routine in a runner's day.

Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. Another important goal for everyone's (not just a runner's) health.

Goal #4: Restart the 100 pushups challenge. Yes I'm going to try this one again.

Goal #5: Train! I'm hoping I will get good news at my doctor's appointment today and Dr. Justin tells me I can continue with marathon training. I have 22 miles on the schedule this weekend but my goal is to run 20. I'm hoping Dr. Justin will tell me it's okay to run that distance. If not...I plan on cross training on the bike at the gym this week...which is something I need to do anyway.

So there's my plan for the week! Short and simple! I have two sub jobs this week too so that will keep me busy also.

Please, please keep me accountable this week by asking me on Facebook or twitter how I'm doing with my goals!

Make sure to come back all this week for the winners to all of my giveaways last week AND to read the recaps from my weekend. I did the Santa Run and the Woman's Half Marathon! Fun stuff!

The Weekly Chase...Redo!

There are some exciting changes coming to The Weekly Chase in January! Melissa at Live, Love, and Run has decided to stop hosting the weekly link up. She asked if any of us weekly chasers were interested in taking it over and I immediately raised my hand!!! Me and Molly from Molly Ritterbeck are going to take on this together and we are sooo excited! We are going to spend the month of December planning and coming up with new ideas to make The Weekly Chase even more fun! So bear with us through this month. In the meantime I am going to continue to write my weekly chase posts each Monday because I love the accountability.

Here are my goals from last week:
  • Goal #1: No snacking after dinner. I stuck to this every night but about 2 this week. Why can't I get this one down???
  • Goal #2: Stretch and foam roll every day. I only did this about 50% this week. Gotta do better this week!
  • Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. Fail! I drank water but not the amount I should have.
  • Goal #4: Restart the 100 pushups program. Fail! I just forgot about this one. :-(
  • Goal #5: Take it easy with running. 100% successful! I definitely took it easy because I didn't run at all last week due to my knee hurting.

So since last week was such a failure with my goals I am going to retry most of them again this week.

Goal #1: No snacking after 9:00. I'm changing this one up a bit since the after dinner thing isn't working as well. I'm setting the time and hopefully that will help me stick to it better.

Goal #2: Stretch and foam roll every day.

Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.

Goal #4: Restart the 100 pushups challenge.

Goal #5: Follow Dr. Justin's orders for my knee. At my doctor's appointment, Dr. Justin told me to take an Epsom Salt bath followed by icing, use Biofreeze twice a day, and stretch. I also have to go see him twice this week.

So that's my plan for this week. I will be running the Woman's Half Marathon on Sunday. I'm hoping my knee will do well. I plan on taking it easy at the race just to be sure. And I plan on having a fun girls weekend!!!

Please, please keep me accountable this week by asking me on Facebook or twitter how I'm doing with my goals!

The Weekly Chase...Back At It!

I didn't get to write my Weekly Chase last week...and I really missed it! I love how this post keeps me accountable. I felt a little lost last week since I didn't have my goals written down. So I am back at it this week!

If you haven't linked up with us for the Weekly Chase yet...well here's your chance! You won't regret it! Melissa at Live, Love, and Run started this and I am so grateful!

Here are the goals I set two weeks ago:
  • Goal #1: No snacking after dinner. I did a little better with this but I still need to work on it. This is so hard for me!!! I always want to snack after the boys go to bed!
  • Goal #2: Stretch and foam roll every day. Yep yep! But I still want to keep this as a daily goal!
  • Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. I was about 50% successful with this. I have GOT to stop drinking sweet tea!!!!
  • Goal #4: Plan dinners for the week. Yes! I did this and it makes dinner time so much easier!
  • Goal #5: Do better with cleaning the house and doing laundry this week. 50% success! Still need to work on this one! Especially since the kids were home from school all last week!
So here are my new goals (and recurring ones) for this week!

Goal #1: No snacking after dinner.

Goal #2: Stretch and foal roll every day.

Goal #3: Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.

Goal #4: Restart the 100 pushups program. I really dropped the ball on this and for no reason. It is something that only takes about 10 minutes 3 times a week. There are no excuses to not do this!

Goal #5: Take it easy with running. My knee got better last week but then after Sunday's 10 miles it started hurting again. I am going to rest another week. Right now the most important part of marathon training is getting the long runs in so that is what I am focusing on. I have 20 miles this weekend. I am going to attempt to do some cross training on the bike at the gym this week to make up for missing my short runs.

So there it is! Goals are written! Wish me luck! Feel free to keep me accountable by asking me on Facebook or twitter how I'm doing with my goals!

Fitness Friday...Marathon Training Week 4!

I'm not really sure why this week felt so busy (I only subbed one time this week) but it was! Regardless of how busy it was...I tried to get my workouts in.

  • Saturday- #plankaday 2:17, Walked about a mile in the corn maze
  • Sunday- #plankaday 2:09, Wall Sit 1:31 (um yeah I totally did this wall sit in a dressing room when I was out shopping lol), 22 push ups

  • Monday- #plankaday 2:32, Wall Sit 1:33

  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:14, Wall Sit 1:21, 24 push ups, 3.12 mile run in 31:24 average pace 10:04

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 2:07, Wall Sit 1:32 (I did this one in the classroom while the kids were at PE!)

  • Thursday- #plankaday 2:08, Wall Sit 1:03, 26 push ups

  • Friday- #plankaday 2:00, Wall Sit 1:30, 10 mile run

I'm still loving my #plankaday and #WickedWallies wall sits. I also ran on Tuesday for the first time in 9 days. The rest has helped my hip but after running Tuesday it was still pretty sore. But by Wednesday it felt better although I can still feel the soreness some. Today I am running a long run of 10 miles...I'm going to take it slow and easy. I'm really hoping the hip does ok. I'm expecting soreness the rest of the day but hopefully it will be barely there on Saturday. It's crazy how old running shoes can cause aches and pains like this! I don't like it!!!

Yesterday I got to go on a fun field trip with Sawyer (my kindergartner)! We went to Wales West...which is a place that has a locomotive coal train and they decorate it according to the season. We got to ride two trains, pick out a pumpkin and decorate it! It was fun! So here's just a few pics that I just couldn't refrain from sharing! :-)

Fitness Friday...Marathon Training Week 3!

Well I will admit that I don't feel very fitness-y (yes I think I just made up that word) this week due to my decision to rest this week. But that's ok...I'm listening to my body and that's what counts. I will admit now...I am sooo looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday since I won't be getting up early for a long run. Is that bad to admit???

So here's my week of workouts...it's scarce people!

  • Saturday- #plankaday 2:23, Wall Sit 1:30, #yogaaday Standing Forward Bend (yes I know I am sooo not flexible)

  • Sunday- #plankaday 1:00, Wall Sit 1:00, 13.25 mile run in 2:37:20 average pace 11:52, #yogaaday Corpse Pose (felt so good after running a half marathon!!!)

  • Monday- #plankaday 2:03, Wall Sit 1:04, #yogaaday Single Leg Bridge Pose in Shoulder Stand (yes as you can see I couldn't master this one!)

  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:14, Wall Sit 1:31, 12 pushups

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 2:02, Wall Sit 1:38, #yogaaday Four-Limbed Staff Pose

  • Thursday- #plankaday 2:07, Wall Sit 1:41, #yogaaday Bridge Pose (yep still couldn't get this pose!)

  • Friday- #plankaday 2:09, Wall Sit 1:30, 1.5 hours of tennis, 16 pushups, #yogaaday Full Boat

So this week I've just done my planks, wall sits, pushups, and yoga (most days). I really focused on stretching and rolling my IT band too. And one thing I learned...yoga is no joke! It is hard!!!! I wish I could take a beginner class of some kind so I could learn more. Maybe one day. I subbed 3 times this week so my two days for tennis were supposed to be Thursday and Friday. Thursday got cancelled due to rain.

Next week....I will start running again...and hope I'm out of my rut...and the hip is feeling a lot better! Have a great weekend!!!

QOTD: Do you know of any good beginner yoga websites that I can try?

The Weekly Chase...REST!

I promise I will get my race recap up asap! I got a call to sub last night...I was so looking forward to resting today but couldn't turn down the job. I need money lol! So I will work on it as soon as I can!

It's time for another Weekly Chase! I would love it if you linked up with us for this awesome post each week! It really helps keep me accountable each week! I'm so glad Melissa at Live, Love, and Run does this!

Here are last week's goals and how I did with them:

  • Goal #1: Hydrate and fuel well for my 11th half marathon this weekend! I did great with this! I was hydrated and fueled up properly! The only thing is I forgot my banana for race morning...I'll tell you about that in the race recap though! ;-)
  • Goal #2: Continue to do my homework for my Bible Study. I still didn't get to go to the study last week but I'm keeping up with the homework! :-)
  • Goal #3: Attend my tennis class twice this week. Yep! I'm loving tennis so far!

Here are my goals for this week:

Goal #1: REST! If you read my post on Saturday about my shoes then you know that my hip started hurting me after one of my short runs last week. Turns out my shoes were right at the mileage where I start to get aches and pains. So I wore my new shoes to the half. My hip was hurting and I made the decision to take a week off from running and let it rest. So I won't have any run posts this week. Gonna keep planking and doing wall sits and tennis though.

Goal #2: Start the 100 pushups program. I downloaded this app on my iPhone last week and am going to start the program this week. I am so weak in my upper body so I'm hoping this will help!

Goal #3: No snacking after dinner. I had this goal in the summer and did fairly well with it but I've gone back to my old habit of eating a snack after the boys go to bed. I'm not hungry so there's no reason for me to be adding these extra calories!!!

So there are my goals for the week! It's already a busy week for me...I'm subbing a full day today and a half day on Tuesday and Wednesday. So it will be a little crazy lol!

QOTD: What are your goals this week?

Fitness Friday...Marathon Training Week 2!

Time for another Fitness Friday! Here we go!

  • Saturday- #plankaday 1:00 (at the campsite in the tent lol), Wall Sit 1:00 (in the campsite bathroom lol)
  • Sunday- #plankaday 2:02, Wall Sit 1:00
  • Monday- #plankaday 2:13, Wall Sit 1:21
  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:16, Wall Sit 1:34, 3.12 mile run in 33:18 average pace 10:40, One hour of tennis

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 2:08, Wall Sit 1:34, 12 pushups in 100 pushups app, #yogaaday Revolved Half Moon Twist (but I didn't revolve)

  • Thursday- #plankaday 2:04, Wall Sit 1:37, 3 mile run in 30:45 average pace 10:13, One hour of tennis, #yogaday Wide-Legged Standing Forward Bend

  • Friday- #plankaday 2:00, Wall Sit 1:31, #yogaday Downward Facing Dog

So this week I started a couple of new things. The first one was the yoga a day challenge on Instagram hosted by Grow Soul Beautiful. I started it 9 days late but thought this would be a good way to introduce myself into some yoga. Because yoga is super good for runners!

The second thing I started is the 100 pushups program. I've attempted this in the past...like 2 years ago...and never completed it. So my goal is to do it this time!

I'm still going strong with my #plankaday and #WickedWallies wall sits! And of course my runs! I have my 11th half marathon on Sunday...the Gulf Coast Half Marathon in Mandeville, LA. I ran this one last year and it was awesome...flat and beautiful course! I'm running it with three of my friends...we all did it together last year too...so I think it may be a yearly tradition for us! :-) We are using it as one of our training long runs for marathon training...so we will be taking it easy and just having fun!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

QOTD: Did you do anything new in your workouts this week?
