Fitness Friday...and an Injury Update!

Happy Friday y'all! It was another busy week around here! I am ready for the weekend!!!

First of all I want to update you on my calf. Ever since my sub 2 half marathon, my right calf has been bothering me. If feels really tight and there's some pain. I probably didn't help matters when I ran two back to back 5K's and then a 10K last weekend. Last week and this week I've been taking it easy on the mileage and only running 1 milers during the week. The calf hurt when I was running and for a little while after the run. Then it would ease up some. I was hoping the icing and rolling would help it. Although it doesn't feel like it's getting any worse...it also isn't getting any better. So I decided to go ahead and get it looked at yesterday.

I have the BEST sports chiropractor in the world...Dr. Justin! You may remember when I saw him for my knee injuries in 2012 and last year. Well...I decided it was time to give him a visit. He always expects me to come in around this time of year...fall seems to be the time my injuries occur. I assured him it wasn't my knee this time but a new injury.

He assessed and treated me. Basically I have a calf strain. He thinks it will only take about 4 visits to get me back to feeling better. In the meantime he said I could still keep my run streak going! I can run 1 milers every day. But no long runs until the pain is gone. At least he's still letting me run! :-)

So I will be visiting his office twice a week the next few weeks. I get to enjoy the fun of estim and ice.

And I get to sport Rock Tape. If that ain't sexy I don't know what is! ;-)

The rest of this week involved my weekly coffee date with my sister. And we volunteered at the Prodisee Pantry this week for Cub Scouts. The boys had fun packing boxes full of food!

And the most exciting part of this week...my birthday present arrived!!! Yes I got the new Garmin Forerunner 220!!! And it's awesome!

But since I can only run 1 milers for now...it thinks this is my longest run! Lol! This watch has no idea!!! ;-)

Now it's time for Fitness Friday! Like I mentioned above, I took it easy with the mileage this week and only ran 1 milers during the week. Last Saturday I ran the Senior Bowl Charity Run 10K...not knowing it was going to be my last long run for a while. :-(

  • Friday- #plankaday 1:06, 1.26 mile run in 10:25 average pace 8:17

  • Sunday- 1.26 mile run in 10:57 average pace 8:42
  • Monday- #plankaday 1:15, 1.26 mile run in 10:59 average pace 8:43

  • Tuesday- #plankaday 1:30, 1.26 mile run in 10:48 average pace 8:36

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 1:31, 1.27 mile run in 11:12 average pace 8:50

  • Thursday- #plankaday 1:30, 1.26 mile run in 11:06 average pace 8:48

The runs were fine this week but the calf hurt during them and a little after. I've been dealing with this calf issue going on 3 weeks now so I'm ready for some relief and for some pain free running again!

My eating was good this week. I've been maintaining my calories and still making healthy choices for the most part. Although I did indulge a little on Tuesday night at Chick Fil A. Instead of my normal grilled chicken sandwich and salad I had the original chicken sandwich and waffle fries. But I was still in the range of my calories on that day so I didn't feel bad about it!

Tomorrow is supposed to be a 7 mile run to start off training for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon. But I'm following Dr. Justin's orders and only running 1 milers. Hopefully this injury won't set me back too far in my training. :-/ It's looking like St. Jude is going to be more about the experience than racing.

The good news....I can sleep in on Saturday!!! ;-) Gotta find the positive in there somewhere, right?

I hope everyone has a great weekend! It's supposed to be really cold again here this weekend!

QOTD: What was your best run or workout this week? Anyone out there ever dealt with a calf strain?
