Week 1 Day 3...

Have I said yet that I absolutely LOVE to run? I NEVER thought those words would come out of my mouth but it is true! Of course I am only in the first week so I may be biting my words come week 5 but oh well! Right now I am loving it!

I went and got some new shoes today too. Andy and I loaded up the boys and headed to Mobile to McCoy's. They were wonderful there! They made me take off my old shoes and looked at my feet. Then they watched me walk and run barefooted. After that they brought out several pairs of shoes for me to try. They watched me walk and run in each pair. I ended up getting Nike Zoom Structure Triax+ 13's. Don't ask me what all that means but that's what the box says lol! When we got home, I strapped them on and ran day 3. It was beautiful out! I am so used to running in the dark...it was awesome to run while the sun was shining! I even went outside of my neighborhood onto the sidewalk off the main road. Tons of people run and walk this path! My shoes felt great! Can't wait to start week 2!!!

My new shoes! Aren't they pretty??!!

Week 1 Day 2...

I finished! And I am still feeling great! I was a little sore from the other day...but it was a good sore! It was soooo cold out there! I have been running in the evenings after Andy gets home...around 6:00. So it has been cold. I thought my hands were going to freeze off before I was finished tonight! I will definitely be wearing gloves next time. Only one more day of week 1 to go! And I am going to get some new shoes this weekend...I am running in my old tennis shoes from before I had Hayden (who is 4) and my foot has grown about 1/2 inch so they are too small. Definitely need new shoes lol!

Goals and Why I Decided To Run

Are you wondering why I have decided to start running? Well, one reason is that it is free! I don't have the money to pay for a gym membership. All you need for running is a good pair of shoes. Another reason is to get back into shape. I have been feeling a little depressed lately over how I have let myself go fitness wise. I have ALWAYS been an active person and in shape. But since I have had my two boys, I have let them come first and myself last. I want to be a good role model for them and help them to see that being in shape and exercising is very important. I want to be able to keep up with them as they are very active little boys! And another reason, is that my body is my temple and I believe God wants us to keep our temple healthy. Here are few of my goals:

1. To lose a few inches in my waist (I hesitated on listing pounds because I know that muscle weighs more than fat and so it is hard to be accurate when looking at pounds).
2. To get in shape and be fit
3. To be able to run 5K
4. A long term goal may be to run a 10K one day (but that will be a long ways away lol!)
5. To run at least 3 times a week and crosstrain at least 2 days a week

It helps to have these written down. It will also make me more accountable! I am sure I will have more goals to add as I continue this journey!

Week 1 Day 1...

I did it!!! And I feel great! Today I started with a 5 minute warm up walk, then I ran for 60 seconds and walked for 90 seconds. I repeated that for about 20 minutes and then ended with a 5 minute cool down walk. I found a podcast by Robert Ullrey that told me when to run and when to walk...that was awesome because I didn't have to look at a stopwatch the whole time. I just enjoyed the walking/jogging! Not too sure about the music on the podcast...it is techno sounding music...not something I would choose to run to. I really want some hip hop music! I am going to search and see if I can find some different podcasts. Anyway, day one is completed...9 more weeks to go! And running outside was awesome...so much better than the treadmill!

The Beginning....

Well I have been talking about it for awhile now and have committed finally! I am going to start running! I am going to use the Couch 2 5K program. This program starts you out in walking/jogging intervals until you will eventually be running about 5K! Sounds unrealistic to me, who is NOT a runner, but I am going to give it a shot! My first day starts tomorrow! Hoping it is a success!

I have always wanted to run but have never succeeded. I always start out too fast and end up giving up in the end because it gets to be too hard. This program seems to go slow enough to help prevent that. I am also the type of person that likes to follow a plan. I like being told when to run and when to walk. In the past I have always ran on a treadmill, which is sooo boring, so I am going to give running outside a try. Wish me luck!
