Olaf Running Costume!

It's that time again! runDisney costume making time! One of the best parts of running at Disney World is running in a costume! It's so much fun! Although I like to dress up I try to make my costume out of running clothes so that I am comfortable. I still have to run those miles!

This year I'm doing the Glass Slipper Challenge...which means I'll be running the 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. So I need two costumes! For the half marathon I'm dressing up with my roommates. We are all going to be the same thing. But for the 10K I'm all on my own since my roomies aren't running it.

After months of thought I decided to keep with the Frozen theme since that's the theme of this year's Princess Half Marathon weekend. Last year for the marathon weekend 10K I dressed up as Anna from Frozen. That costume no longer fits me since I've lost so much weight. So it was back to the drawing board. One of my favorite characters from Frozen is Olaf. So Olaf it is!!!

Now just a heads up. I wish that I was super crafty and creative but I'm not. So NO I didn't come up with this costume all on my own. Thanks to my friend Google, I found tutorials and templates from East Coast Mommy and All For the Boys. Without those two sites I would have been clueless lol! 

First I gathered all my materials. I needed a glue gun, different colored felt, brown pipe cleaners, poly fill, scissors, the template, and a white hat (which I got from Walmart for about $3).

Then I started cutting out all the felt using the template. After the pieces were cut out I started hot gluing them all together. I started with the eyes. And then I tackled the carrot nose which was the hardest part to glue!

Finally I got the carrot nose glued. So I stuffed it with poly fill.

Then it was time to hot glue all of the pieces onto the hat! I glued the carrot nose as close to the bill of the hat as I could.

Then came the eyes, eyebrows, and tooth! Then I shaped the pipe cleaners the way I wanted them and glued them to the top of the hat. Easy!

I love the way it turned out!

For the shirt I used the template for the eyes to make the black buttons. I cut out the pieces and hot glued them to my shirt.

The shirt I used is one that it a little big for me now. It also had a stain on it that I was able to cover up with the black button. So it was perfect!

If I had used a shirt that I would have wanted to run in again I would have lightly sewed the black felt on so that the stitches could be pulled out after the race making it a white shirt again. :-)

All in all this was a super easy costume to make!

I'm pairing it with my white running skirt and Olaf socks that I got from Target a while back. :-) I'm super excited to run the Enchanted 10K as Olaf!!!

runDisney Costumes Revealed!

Hey ya'll! Today I am traveling to Walt Disney World to run the 10K and Half Marathon! I am sooo excited! runDisney races are my absolute favorite! Part of the fun is running in costume! I also take special care in picking out my costumes for each race! And fortunately I have an awesome mother-in-law who sews and always helps me make awesome costumes!

In 2011 I ran as Minnie Mouse in the Disney Princess Half Marathon!
In 2012 I ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon but it was a spur of the moment trip so no costume was planned.
In 2013 I ran as Snow White in the Walt Disney World Marathon!

This year since I am running two races of course I needed two costumes! ;-)

Costume #1....Anna from Frozen!!!

Materials:
Royal Blue Sparkle Running Skirt
Light Blue Running Shirt
Black tank top
Black compression socks (optional)
Blonde Streak Hair Extension (optional)
Purple, Green, and Pink Acrylic Paint
Gold Ribbon
Maroon Material for Cape
Black Lace (or brown)
Black Thin Ribbon with Pom poms (or brown)
Gold Buttons
Black Ponytail Holder

The cape is the hardest part of this costume to make. My mother-in-law made it a little big so that I would not feel too confined while running. She used her sewing machine for most of it but some things were sewn on by hand.

Then we added gold ribbon to the perimeter of a tank top. And my sister-in-law painted the flower on it.

Costume #2....Mike Wazowski from Monsters University

Materials:

Lime Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Lime Green Running Shirt

Lime Green Compression Socks

White, Light Blue, and Black Felt

For this costume I googled Mike Wazowski expressions and drew them on felt. Then I cut the felt out and sewed it lightly onto the lime green shirt. Easy!

I still haven't made up my mind which costume I am wearing for which race! And for those wondering...yes I have a running skirt under my sparkle skirt! I don't own any compression shorts since I always run in skirts lol! 

I'm very pleased with both costumes! Thank you so much to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law for making these costumes for me!!!

Disney Marathon Outfit Making!

One of the things I am most excited about the Walt Disney World Marathon is that I am running all dressed up! Because running is all about the outfit...right?

The group of girls I have been training with and will be running the race with all decided on who we wanted to dress up as when we first decided to run this marathon.

Me- Sleeping Beauty

I chose Sleeping Beauty because she is one of my favorite princesses...AND because she is my son Sawyer's favorite princess! He loves her so much that when we went to Disney World a couple of summers ago he begged to see her. And then when we found her he was super shy and nervous! She gave him a kiss on the cheek and he LOVES that picture!

Well I knew from the start that my outfit would include a skirt from runningskirts.com...because that's all I ever run in! So I had to find a pink skirt (yeah I can't believe I didn't already have one). I bought the skirt a while back...and this past weekend I went searching for a tank top to match it. Because looking at the weather...it is going to be quite warm for the marathon. I found a cute Under Armour tank (can I just say that it is super hard to find tank tops in January!) and when I got it home...the pink did not match!!! Now a slight variation wouldn't bother me...but this was way off. The skirt was more of a dull pink and the tank was neon pink! So off to the store I went again (bringing the skirt with me) and I was unsuccessful! None of the pinks looked good with my skirt!!! So...yes...I was panicking!!! It was a week before the marathon and my outfit was falling apart!!!

After some deliberation...I decided Sleeping Beauty was not meant to be me for this marathon. I had a talk with Sawyer...and yes he was upset...but I promised him I would try again next Disney race.

So back to the drawing board I went! Who could I dress up as? I remembered that I had bought a yellow princess skirt from runningskirts.com a few years ago and never wore it during a race. So....which princesses are yellow? Belle...but Angela was Belle. So then I remembered Snow White had yellow. Yay! I started googling Snow White running costumes and came across a blog called This Mama Makes Stuff! This blog is awesome!!! I sooo wish I was this creative!!! And score...she had a post for a Snow White Running Costume Tutorial! I immediately emailed my mother-in-law to see if she could make this (because I cannot sew) and she said she could!

So back to the store I went in search of a blue tank. Success! I found one at Dick's Sporting Goods on clearance for $6.00!!!!  Then I headed to Michael's for some ribbon for the sleeves. All set!

I decided not to do the collar or cape because I figured they would drive me nuts for 26.2 miles! But the cute sleeves were a must!!!

My mother-in-law came over yesterday to make the sleeves. We gathered up all our supplies before we got started.

There was tons of trying on my blue shirt, measuring my huge arms, positioning ribbons, and getting stuck with pins (ok just one or two stuck me)!

And then my awesome mother-in-law worked her magic!

And ta-da!!! It was finished!!!

Here's what the outfit looks like all together! I will be adding white compression socks and a solid red (not the red and white one I have on in the pic) headband. I am also borrowing a red bow to attach to the headband from my friend Stephanie's little girls. And...maybe red lipstick! ;-)

It's simple but I love it! Hopefully I look Snow Whitey enough! ;-)
