Huma Chia Energy Gel Review...New Flavors!!!

Disclaimer: Huma Chia Energy Gel sent me samples of their product to taste and review. I received no other compensation. All opinions in the post below are mine and mine alone!

It's no secret that I LOVE Huma Chia Energy Gel! Ever since I tried it about a year ago I haven't fueled with any other gel! I love that it is made with chia seeds and all natural. I love knowing I am putting only the best ingredients into my body!

Another big plus for me...Huma does NOT upset my tummy like some of the other gels do! Win!

In the past Huma has only had two flavors...Apples and Cinnamon (my favorite) and Strawberries. But just recently they came out with TWO new flavors...Mangoes and Blueberries! I couldn't wait to try the new flavors!!!

Blueberry is one of my favorites so I couldn't wait to try that one! I decided to take it along on my 11 mile run a few weeks ago.

I was at the point in the run where I really needed some fuel. So out came my Blueberries Huma Gel! And it was soooo good!!!

It tasted good, didn't upset my tummy, and fueled me well for the rest of my run! Score! I will definitely be buying this flavor again!

Mangoes was the flavor I wasn't as excited about trying. I am not a huge Mango fan. So I wasn't sure I would like this flavor.

I used the Mangoes one during my 10K race this past weekend!

The flavor wasn't exactly my favorite...but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either! See the proof below...an empty Huma wrapper!

I love that both of these new flavors deliver the same quality goodness you can expect from Huma Chia Energy Gel! I will say that Blueberries is now one of my favorites!

Fitness Friday...April 12th Edition!

Well this isn't going to be much of a Fitness Friday for me because this week I took a recovery week! My body needed to rest and recover from all the racing I've been doing lately. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely! Did I miss running? Absolutely!!! By Wednesday I was so ready to go for a run but I knew it was best for my body to take the time to recover and rest. So I listened. So my workouts for the majority of this week were nothing but my #plankaday.

  • Saturday- #plankaday 1:00, lunging and leaping and sprinting at the Zombie Run...has to count for something because my legs were super sore!

  • Monday- #plankaday 1:04
  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:03
  • Wednesday- #plankaday 1:16
  • Thursday- #plankaday 1:05
  • Friday- #plankaday 1:00

Today I am on a Field Trip with Sawyer and his kindergarten class! Should be lots of fun! Tonight I am super excited because it's date night!!! My hubby and I haven't had a date in FOREVER! I can't wait to spend some quality time with my man! Saturday we will be at the campsite with the Cub Scouts. We aren't camping this weekend but will spend the day there on Saturday and have a pack meeting that night. Should be a fun family weekend!

In other news....the new Spring Collection is online for Running Skirts!!!! These prints are sooooo cute!!!

Spring Break Running (and a winner)!

This week is Spring Break for my boys. So you'd think we were visiting the beach and swimming. But that's not the case. It's been cold! Three nights so far we've had a freeze warning in effect! So being outside has been a struggle because of the cold.

There has also been the question, "How am I going to run this week since the boys are out of school?" Well I found the answer! It's really a win win situation for me and the boys! I loaded up their bikes and we headed to the track!!! I got my run in...and they got to ride their bikes!

Now yes...running three miles around and around and around the track is pretty boring. But this way I could keep an eye on my boys AND run!

I will admit that this definitely wasn't my favorite run. Most of the time I was just ready to be done. But I stuck it out and did it! And of course I felt so much better after the run!

We had a great morning at the track! I am so glad I can show my boys how important it is to be active and to exercise! I love those little guys!

So how about a WINNER? Thanks to all who entered my giveaway for Huma Chia Energy Gel! If you didn't win and still want to try this awesome gel you can still order your own sample pack from their website. You can get free shipping using the code ROADRUNNERGIRL at checkout. Huma Chia Energy Gel Review and Giveaway!

Not too long ago my friend Larisa from Zero to Twenty Six Point Two sent me a text asking me if I wanted to try a new energy gel for my runs. Well being the running blogger that I am I love trying new things! But first I did a little research because I didn't want to say yes if I knew that it would be a product that I wasn't interested in. So she told me the name of the gel...Huma Chia Energy Gel...and I immediately googled it. When I saw the words "chia" and "all natural" I knew I definitely wanted to try this gel.

I got in contact with Ian from Huma Gel and he quickly sent me 4 gels to try!

I love the story behind Huma. Lieutenant McCollum was in Iraq and reading a book about the Tarahumara, a tribe of Mexican Indians who compete in 100+ mile races as part of their culture. To fuel themselves on these ultramarathons they use a special blend of chia seeds. He decided to see if this would work for him in Iraq. It indeed worked and it lead to the creation of Huma!

So what is Huma all about? (click on the image below to enlarge it)

Made with chia, tastes great, and 100% natural...what more could you want?

It comes in two flavors: Strawberries and Apples & Cinnamon!

I've talked about how I fuel for my long runs and how GU is the gel I use. A lot of my friends can't use GU because it upsets their stomach during the run. I've never had that problem during the run. It happens to me AFTER the run. I've just come to accept that my tummy is going to hurt for a few hours after a long run. But...I've learned through Huma Chia Energy Gel that it doesn't have to be that way!

I first tried Huma on a 12 mile training run. The course was very hilly and I knew I was going to need that fuel to get me through it. I usually take my gels about every 45 minutes...Huma suggests the same thing...and to drink lots of water with it. So around that time I consumed my first ever Huma gel...the Strawberries one.

It was so yummy! It tasted like strawberry puree. And I didn't notice the chia seeds at all. The big plus is that it wasn't hard getting it down. With other gels I always have a hard time getting them down...and the texture usually makes me want to gag. Not Huma! The next few miles...and hills...of the run were great! I could feel the burst of energy from the gel...and my tummy felt fine!

The next 45 minutes I tried a second Huma gel...the Apples & Cinnamon one. Oh my goodness this one was my favorite! It tasted like Apple Cinnamon applesauce or apple butter! And for all you texture people out there...the texture is just like applesauce. I actually could feel that I was putting something healthy in my body! I was in love...with Huma!

The next weekend I ran the Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Half Marathon. What fuel did I use? The other two Huma gels that Ian sent me! And...I had a great race!

The next weekend I was running the Seaside Half Marathon and I could NOT make myself go back to GU. So I was on the hunt for Huma! Luckily, using the Store Locator section of their website, I found a place locally that sells it!!! And you can bet I stocked up! As you can tell, the Apples & Cinnamon is my favorite!!!

And do you remember that little race called Seaside? Where I PRed???? Yeah...I give all the credit to Huma!!!

My pace partner, Holly from Running and Baking Oh My, won some Huma gel in a giveaway and I was sooo excited for her! This tweet from her sums up how well Huma Gel worked for me in Seaside.
