Fitness Friday...June 5th Edition!

Happy Friday y'all! I hope you had a great week! We did! We are enjoying our summer immensely!

On Monday the boys went swimming at Grandma's! We tried the community pool for the first time and it was super nice! The boys had a blast!

On Tuesday we met my friend Jenny and her son Sawyer at the movies to watch "Tomorrowland!" It was a really good movie! The boys were all glued to their seats the entire time! After the movie we went to...wait for it...Starbucks!!! Yeah if Jenny and I are together there will always be Starbucks involved ;-)

Wednesday was National Running Day! I celebrated by running of course! :-) It was also grocery shopping day. The boys hate it...and so do I! But it has to be done. So afterwards I took them to the park. They played while I drank coffee and enjoyed my new Runner's World magazine! :-)

After the park we got some fro-yo!

Thursday Andy was off work! We had a fun day! We went out to lunch. Then we came home and played a game of Monopoly (that lasted FOREVER)! Fun times! Unfortunately (from all my trips to jail) I ended up bankrupt and lost everything! :-/

During one of our breaks from the game we headed to Starbucks! Sawyer wanted to use his own money and buy himself a frappuccino! :-)

This week I also added in a little strength training. I found this workout on Pinterest and have been doing it every day! I have continued to do my planks like always...I couldn't imagine going back to 20 seconds. But hopefully by the end of the month I will be at a 5 minute plank like it says. And let me tell you...squats make my legs very very sore lol! And I've discovered that I have no upper body strength! How am I going to do 50 push-ups on day 30??? We will see lol!

Now it's time for Fitness Friday! My runs went great this week! I even ran a 5K on National Running Day! I normally just stick to 1-2 milers during the week for my streak. But it felt good to run a 5K!

  • Friday- #plankaday 2:05, 2.16 mile run in 17:53 average pace 8:17

  • Sunday- 2.26 mile run in 18:51 average pace 8:21
  • Monday- #plankaday 2:06, 1.70 mile run in 14:39 average pace 8:38, 50 squats, 5 push-ups, 25 crunches

  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:00, 1.77 mile run in 14:54 average pace 8:25, 55 squats, 5 push-ups, 30 crunches

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 2:05, 3.12 mile run in 26:20 average pace 8:27, 60 squats, 6 push-ups, 35 crunches

  • Thursday- #plankaday 2:15, 2.06 mile run in 17:39 average pace 8:33, 6 push-ups

So lots of running this week! But it felt great! And I'm enjoying the strength training although I've been sore! I know that challenge is a piece of cake for a lot of you but I have to take baby steps! ;-)

This weekend I have a 6 mile run on the schedule.

I hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Bad A$$ Runner Virtual 5 Miler Recap!

Disclaimer: As a Gone For a Run ambassador I was given a complimentary race entry. No other compensation was received. All opinions are mine alone.

I hope you are out running today for National Running Day!!! You know I am! :-) #GoRunItJune3

This past Saturday I ran another virtual race! I love virtual races because you can run them anywhere! This race was the Bad Ass Runner Virtual 5 Mile Race by Gone For a Run

During the summer I like to keep a base long run of 6.2 miles. So I set out to run this race...but I knew I was going to tack an extra 1.2 miles onto the end of it! ;-)

My Sole2Soul Sisters came out to run it with me.

The weather was a little cooler than it has been and it felt great!

We started out running and it felt great. We were running a familiar route but parts of it I hadn't run in awhile. I love to change it up during longer runs! Jenny and I were talking away and before we knew it 2 miles had flown by! We stopped for a quick water break and then we were off again!

I love running with friends! It makes the run go by so much faster! And when you are talking it really goes by fast! Jenny and I definitely love to talk! #WeGotTheGiftOfGab

And before I knew it...the virtual race was complete! I had run 5 miles! I stopped to take a quick picture of my time before finishing out my run. (Thanks Jenny for letting me use your Garmin since mine wanted to end the run for good instead of letting me take a picture)

We only had 1.2 miles to go! Just like the rest of the run the miles flew by! 6.2 miles DONE!

I felt great this entire run! Even the humidity didn't make me struggle like it has been. Of course running with friends could have helped tremendously! :-)

Thanks for running with me Jenny!

And I love my Paigey!!! And our goofy pics together! So fun!

After the run the hubby took a post race picture of me with my medal!!! #AllAboutTheBling

Another fun virtual race is in the books!!!

Be sure to check out all the other virtual races that Gone For A Run has to offer!

National Running Day June 3rd!

So tomorrow is National Running Day! It's our day y'all!!! The day to celebrate what we love to do...RUN!!! There are so many ways to celebrate...the most obvious is to RUN!

Be on the lookout as well because so many brands will be offering discounts. Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series will be offering up to $20 discounts. You can sign up for a reminder HERE. And just check out this awesome video about why running rocks!

Asics (my favorite shoes) is also celebrating with their #GoRunItJune3 campaign! Use their hashtag on twitter and you could win a free pair of shoes!!! Then after your run go and download a badge to share that you ran with the world!

So in honor of National Running Day I am linking up with Kristen and several of my fellow bloggers and answering questions about my running!

1. Why do you run?
I run simply because I LOVE it! I also run for my health. I love that running makes me a healthy role model for my boys as well. I want them to see that their mom believes in staying healthy through exercising and choosing healthy foods.

2. How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day?
By running of course!!! And since I'm streaking it will be day 375 for me!

3. How many miles have you run so far this year?
I've run 412 miles so far this year!

4. What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year?
I've already completed most of my races for this year. In the fall I will be running the Gulf Coast Half Marathon and the Senior Bowl Charity Run 10K.

5. Before you leave for a run you must have:
Garmin, iPhone for music and mid and post run pics, headband or visor, sunglasses if it's sunny out, running skirt, and running shoes of course!

6. Do you have one favorite app to track your runs?
My Garmin is my main source to track my runs. But I upload all my runs to Garmin Connect and Map My Run!

7. Who is your favorite running partner?
My running group....Sole2Soul Sisters! My running partners that run my same pace are Andria and Jenny! Couldn't train without them!

8. What races have you ran so far this year?
Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Half, Glass Slipper Challenge, Seaside Half, Biggest Loser Half, Crescent City Classic 10K, Azalea Trail Run 10K, and Fiesta 10K!

9. If you had to give someone one piece of advice about running what would it be?
If you're just beginning...slow down. Don't try to run too fast too soon. Believe in yourself because if you believe then you can fly (or run)!

10.  Describe your relationship with running in one word:
Harmonious.

The Weekly Chase #125!

It's June!!! Can you believe it? That means only a few more weeks and we will be in Disney World!!!! :-)

This weekend was a great one! Friday my boys and I met some friends downtown for a picnic. We had so much fun!

Later that afternoon my sister Amy arrived for the weekend. So we met her, her kids, and my other sister Christy and Ella at the park and for ice cream!

Saturday I ran a 10K with my Sole2Soul Sisters! I'll recap that for you later this week! I also got lots of sweet kitty kisses after my run!

Then that afternoon I paid a visit to Starbucks (I hadn't had one since Monday...I was going through withdrawals lol)!

While I was waiting on my frapp they offered me a mini vanilla bean frapp for free because they had made an extra one! How could I turn that down? I had some very happy boys!

Then we headed to a friend's house for swimming and a cookout! We had a shrimp boil and smores and fried ice cream for dessert! So yummy! It was so fun hanging out with friends! The boys had a blast!!! And Andy and I enjoyed it too!

Sunday afternoon we went to the History Museum of Mobile. It was neat learning about the city's history!

Then we took the boys to Andy's parents house to stay the night. We had dinner together. I just love my family!!!

Now it's time for the Weekly Chase! It's a new week and I have new goals to achieve! I hope you will link up your own goals with me too! And feel free to use the badge below in your post too! You can grab the badge HERE! :-)

Road Runner Girl

Here are my goals from last week!

  • Goal #1: Run every day! Yep! The streak is still alive! And I had some great runs this week!
  • Goal #2: Roll, stretch, and ice daily. Yes! I've been very diligent with this!
  • Goal #3: Maintain my weight by logging my calories. For the most part. We went to a cookout at a friend's house this weekend and I didn't log what we ate. But it was a long run day and I still had 1200 calories left for the day so I figured I was good! ;-)
  • Goal #4: Incorporate some weight training into my routine. :-( Nope, I did not do good with this at all, I need a plan y'all! Who can give me a at home weight training plan? Anyone???
  • Goal #5: Sign Hayden up for Cub Scout Camp. Yes. He's all signed up!

Here are my goals for this week!

Goal #1: Run every day! Keeping the streak alive! It's getting hotter and hotter though. I know I'm eventually going to have to slow down some.

Goal #2: Roll, stretch, and ice daily. I really think this helps keep me running every day.

Goal #3: Maintain my weight by logging my calories. Gotta maintain my weight! I love where I'm at and don't want to gain.

Goal #4: Incorporate some weight training into my routine. Trying this again. I'm serious about a plan...any suggestions? I HAVE to have a plan. That's why running is always so successful for me....I have a training schedule.

Goal #5: Yard sale prep. Our neighborhood is having a yard sale this weekend. We have so many things we could sell. I've just got to get it all together.

So that's the plan for the week! I'm hoping to spend some time with friends this week! Let's get this summer thang started! :-)

QOTD: What are your goals this week?
