10K With My Hubby!

This weekend I set out to run at least 6 miles. My hubby decided to come with me and ride his bike along beside me! I was so excited to have him with me!

As soon as we walked out of the door the heat hit us. And the humidity. The air was so thick and hot. I knew this was going to be a tough run. But of course I wasn't going to not attempt it!

For those that have asked...no I don't run faster or slower when my hubby is biking beside me. I go at my normal pace and he adjusts.

The first 2 miles we were able to watch the sun rise! It was cloudy since rain was in the forecast but still beautiful! And I loved seeing it with him since normally he's still sleeping when I'm running on the weekends!

And he's so cute riding that bike!!! ;-)

I'm not gonna lie though. This run got tough real fast. It was just so hot and humid! I was sweating buckets already at mile 1! But I'm stubborn and won't let myself give up. And I definitely can't give up with my husband there lol!

Even though we started early for a Saturday morning (or so I thought) we had to dodge a ton of traffic. My hubby did NOT like that at all. But it's what a runner has to do for a long run around here since there aren't sidewalks everywhere.

He felt much better when we got off the busy road and entered a neighborhood. Poor guy though. I barely talked to him. I was struggling. I could barely breathe. He probably enjoyed me being quiet for once lol!

We came to a road where we were going to turn and make a loop. But he wanted to turn right instead of left. When I asked him why he said when we had passed the end of that street the first time that someone had vomited and it was all over the road. You can tell I was struggling because I never even saw that!

I didn't want to veer from my route (I had my mileage routed out) but knew I didn't want to see the vomit either. So we turned right. And it was ok in the end. I had to run a little bit past our neighborhood (if we'd turned left I would have stopped before my neighborhood) to make the mileage but it wasn't too far.

The last mile was so tough! I was so ready to be done! And I had such feelings of disappointment. Just a few weekends ago I was PRing my long runs! But I KNOW it's the heat and humidity. I really need to slow down some so these runs aren't quite so hard. But I can never seem to do that. And so I struggle. Ugh! Maybe I will learn eventually. You would think I would remember how summer running is here on the Gulf Coast but it seems to take me by surprise each summer.

I was super glad when this run was done!

And even though I barely talked to him the entire run...I was thankful to have Andy riding his bike beside me!

My goal this next weekend's long run is to slow down some! Do you think I can do it??

The Weekly Chase #178!

Happy Monday y'all! I can't believe that we are already in the middle of June! My summer break is already going by way too fast!

We had a great weekend! On Friday the boys finished up their last day of Vacation Bible School! They had a blast attending it last week with their friend Maddy!

While the kiddos were at VBS my friend Kirstin and I enjoyed a yummy breakfast at Panera Bread and some shopping!

After lunch, we met my friend Amber at Starbucks as she and her kids were traveling through on their way to Texas! I'd never met her in real life (only online) and she was awesome! And her kids were precious!!! I enjoyed coffee with them!

I also received some happy mail on Friday! My new Momentum Jewelry wraps came in! I even got one customized with "Road Runner Girl!" LOVE these wraps so much!!!

Later that afternoon we went to Target. My boys LOVE going to Target and just looking at all the Legos. It's a great way to get out of the heat (because it's always freezing in Target) and pass some time! While there we ran into my friend Lisa and her girls! Lisa invited us over to swim in about half an hour. Since we didn't have any plans we accepted! All the kids had a blast swimming!!!

We ended our night with our traditional Friday pizza!

Saturday morning I ran 6 miles while Andy biked beside me! My run was tough due to it being super hot and humid but I did it. I'll tell you more about it on Wednesday!

After breakfast my hubby and boys headed to Grandma and Papa's house to work on Hayden's foot locker for Boy Scouts.

I stayed behind because I had plans with Kirstin. But first I used one of the gift certificates from my sweet students for a spa pedicure! It was so relaxing and I LOVE the color I picked! It's called "Keepin' It Teal!"

After my pedicure I met Kirstin for lunch. And we did a little bit of shopping. Then we went back to her house for some coffee and to wait on her cousin Emily to arrive for the weekend from New Orleans.

That night when Andy and the boys came home we just relaxed. I enjoyed reading my book!

Sunday morning I woke up early and got in a run and a walk. Then we went to church. After church we ate some lunch.

That afternoon we met Kirstin and her cousin Emily for some shopping. And Starbucks was in the plans too of course!

Now it's time for the Weekly Chase! It's a new week and I have new goals to achieve! I hope you will link up your own goals with me too! And feel free to use the badge below in your post too! You can grab the badge HERE! :-)

Fitness Friday...June 10th Edition!

Happy Friday y'all!!! We had another fun filled summer week!

The boys attended Vacation Bible School at my friend's church this week! Their friend Maddy went with them and they all had a blast!

So while they were at VBS in the mornings this momma had some free time to herself! I did some shopping (fun shopping AND grocery shopping) and even got my hair cut!

See my new haircut?! I just had a few inches trimmed off and added a few long layers. I told the lady that I had to be able to still pull it up in a ponytail for running. Not very drastic so you may not even notice I had it cut. But it feels so much better!

After picking up the kiddos from VBS each day the fun began! One day we ate lunch at a new to us restaurant in Fairhope called Warehouse Bakery and Donuts! Everything there is made from scratch and they strive to purchase all their ingredients locally. Just check out all those yummy bakery items!

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with cheese grits. It was super yummy! They are also known for their breakfast bowls which I'm going to have to try the next time!

And it's always more fun to try out new lunch places with friends!

After lunch we went back to Kirstin's house so the kids could play! Kirstin and I created our own Starbucks atmosphere and enjoyed an afternoon cup of coffee!

The kiddos enjoyed everyone's favorite summer treat...popsicles!!!

Kirstin invited us to stay for dinner. She whipped up an amazing pasta dish! It was so yummy! She is such a great cook unlike myself!

This week I also introduced the boys to Mexican Train Dominoes! They absolutely love it! They have wanted to play every day lol!

We also enjoyed a coffee and froyo date this week! All the moms got Starbucks and the kiddos got frozen yogurt!

My sister in law Katie and nephew Ronan met us at the froyo place! All the kiddos LOVED Ronan and he loved them! It was so cute!!!

The boys have had a blast at Vacation Bible School this week! The theme is an underwater theme called "Submerged!" Our church is doing the same theme in July. They have loved going this week and are singing all the songs like crazy!

I've also had two continuing education classes twice this week at night. Luckily my co worker Erika signed up for the same classes so we attended together. That always makes it less boring lol!

Now it's time for Fitness Friday! I had a great week of runs! It's so hot and humid out there but I will continue to endure it to keep my streak going!

  • Friday- #plankaday 2:15, 2.56 mile run in 20:18 average pace 7:56

  • Sunday- 2.62 mile run in 21:24 average pace 8:11
  • Monday- #plankaday 2:05, 2.26 mile run in 18:26 average pace 8:09

  • Tuesday- #plankaday 2:05, 2.52 mile run in 20:07 average pace 8:00

  • Wednesday- #plankaday 2:05, 30 push-ups, 2.38 mile run in 18:58 average pace 7:58

  • Thursday- #plankaday 2:05, 2.52 mile run in 19:59 average pace 7:56

So that's how my runs went this week! I even got in a little bit of strength training although it wasn't much. And I cross trained with walks almost every day! I'm loving all this extra time in the summer to do more fitness things!!!

This weekend I plan on running 5-6 miles for my long run. I'm hoping my hubby will ride his bike along with me one of my runs this weekend!

I hope you all have a great weekend!!!

QOTD: What was your best run or workout this week?

Long Run Saturday!

This past weekend there was rain in the forecast. I wasn't sure what I was going to wake up to. Would it be raining? Would it be thunder storming? Or would I time it just right and miss the storms?

Well in the middle of the night I was woken up by thunder. Lots of thunder! And I could hear the rain as well. I woke up several times throughout the night due to rain.

So when my alarm went off I was so not ready to get up. But I could hear that it wasn't raining and knew I needed to get that run in while I had the chance. I had set my alarm earlier than I have been too because it is just so hot. I was trying to beat the heat as much as I could.

There were several clouds in the sky when I started my run. And it was pretty humid. And of course it was hot.

I tried to focus on slowing down some. My past couple of long runs have been a struggle and I know it's because I'm going too fast for this hot and humid weather. But y'all!!! Slowing down is so hard for me to do!

The sun had risen but the clouds hid most of it. It was pretty seeing it trying to peek out of the clouds though! And you can see how wet the roads were from all the rain!

I made it to around mile 2 and then I turned around and headed toward a neighborhood that I was going to run in.

I just kept marveling at how beautiful the sky was! There were clouds but it seemed like they were trying their best to go away!

I made it to the neighborhood and ran several loops in there. They were getting ready for a neighborhood yard sale so I was entertained watching all the people getting their things out in their yard!

Before I knew it I was heading out of the neighborhood and back towards home. I was almost done! Like it's been the past few long runs..that last mile was tough. But I made it! Another summer long run was done!!!

I was soaked with sweat! But so happy to have survived another hot and humid long run here on the Gulf Coast! My pace was a little slower but still pretty fast. I'm not going to complain lol!

After my run I made a cup of coffee and drank it out on the back porch with my hubby! Perfect start to my Saturday!!

QOTD: Do you tend to slow down in the summer heat?
