I was so excited to run the Gulf Coast Half Marathon in Mandeville for the third time! I knew that my hip wasn't going to allow me a PR so my goal was to have fun and finish the race. And that's just what I did!
My friend Paige picked me up on Saturday around noon and we headed the 2.5 hours towards Louisiana! We had a blast catching up on the ride there. After we had driven about an hour we stopped for lunch at Chili's! I love Chili's and we don't have one where I live. I was super excited about the Skillet Queso (I thought about you Stephanie)! That stuff is amazing!!!
For lunch I had the chicken fajitas! They were super yummy but I was so full from pigging out on the queso!
After lunch we headed straight to packet pick up. This race is fairly small so there is no huge expo. But I love it because you pick up your packet at the local running store called Varsity Sports. It's in a cute little house! So you know what that means? Shopping!!! :-)
We found the clearance rack and SCORE! Paige and I both got some goodies! We both got some Moving Comfort shorts for $10 and a Oiselle shirt that was 40% off! I just love good deals!
After we shopped we headed to the back yard to pick up our race bib and shirt. This race has the cutest shirts! They aren't tech shirts but they are always super soft and cute. There were a few tents set up for some local races but that was about it.
On our way out we stopped and got a quick picture with Joe Relaxo!
I was super proud of my bib this time! I had Road Runner Girl put on there instead of my name! :-)
Then we headed to check in to our hotel. The race is in Mandeville but we stayed in Covington. We laugh about this every year...because the locals in Mandeville always say, "Why are you staying all the way in Covington?" Well...Covington is only about 3 miles away from Mandeville lol! So it's a joke that it is just taking way too long to get to our hotel or to the race! ;-)
Our hotel was nice as always. Only this year they were undergoing some renovations so we had to check in at a different entrance than normal. But our room was super nice!
The rest of the afternoon we watched football in the hotel room. I was on the edge of my seat during the Auburn game! I'm so proud of my Auburn Tigers and their 45-41 victory over Texas A&M!!!
After the game we headed out for dinner. We were both wanting pizza (or I may have talked Paige into pizza lol) so we went to Mellow Mushroom. We each had a salad and then we split a pizza. Can you tell which half was mine???? For those of you that know me in person...you know that I hate spinach!!! ;-)
Since I talked Paige into pizza...she talked me into dessert! This was a peanut butter chocolate cookie with ice cream and fudge and it was amazing!!!
We then rolled ourselves back to the hotel room and got everything ready for the race! I was a little nervous that my body wouldn't remember how to run since I had been resting so much due to my hip lol! I was hoping for a good night's sleep!
I had my outfit all laid out! Hey...it's all about the outfit right?
Stay tuned for my race recap!!!
QOTD: Do you have any pre-race traditions?
