Runner Spotlights #115

Yesterday was Sawyer's first gymnastics competition and he did awesome! I can't wait to share more with you this week! Hope you are all having a great weekend!

It's time for another runner spotlight...my favorite time of the week! I love reading other runners' stories about their running journey! If you are interested in being spotlighted on my blog please email me at mindy@roadrunnergirl.com! I'd love to spotlight you! You don't have to have a blog to be spotlighted...you just have to be a runner! ;-) And I'm running low on spotlights so now's your time to shine!!!

Today I'm spotlighting Jackie from Run Jackie Run! Keep reading to learn more about her and her running journey!

Name: Jackie
State: NYC

When and why did you start running?
I started running again about two months ago, so I’m still very new to the community! Love it so far, though.

What is your favorite race and race distance?
5k, definitely – it looks and feels manageable for me as a beginner, and I imagine it’s drawn in many beginner runners before me.

What is your race day routine?
Don’t have one yet – running my first race October 25!

What is your most favorite piece of running gear?
My Runkeeper app. It’s free and SUPER useful for finding out how far, how fast, and how much you’ve been running. This will come in handy more and more as I increase distance and begin concerning myself with PR.

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your running?
No, not really. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal and try to stay on or below 1800 calories. Where those calories come from doesn’t matter much for me, but I try to keep it healthy. As for supplements, I take one vitamin, One A Day Women’s, every morning to help with my low energy and mild anemia.

What do you wish you’d known when you first started running?
How kind and wonderful the running community is! The people are so encouraging and non-judgmental, I should never have been afraid to reach out to them.

What is your fondest running memory?
Today, when I ran/walked 2.5 miles for the first time after a week long hiatus. Knowing I could push through and be strong, even after going through a horrible experience the previous week, was a great moment for me.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
I’m an avid reader and super nerd. I was originally going to be a History professor, but now I’m looking to going into social work, a world away from athletics!
