Runner Spotlights #66

How's everyone's weekend going? Mine has been very relaxing! And that has been much needed! It was a gloomy, rainy day yesterday so we had a relaxing day at home. This morning I ran a long run with friends. Then we are heading to church for the Choir Christmas program. Then it's cub scouts activities the rest of the afternoon.

Now it's time for another runner spotlight...my favorite time of the week! I love reading other runners' stories about their running journey! If you are interested in being spotlighted on my blog please email me at mindy@roadrunnergirl.com! I'd love to spotlight you! You don't have to have a blog to be spotlighted...you just have to be a runner! ;-)

Today I'm spotlighting Melissa from Fit Girls Rock! She's from Canada! Keep reading to learn more about her!

Name: Melissa Shevchenko
Alberta, Canada

When and why did you start running?
I started running about 15 years ago and I started because I had recently graduated from high school and I know longer had organized sports to keep me active. I switched to running on my own outside and fell in love.

What is your favorite race and race distance?
My favorite race to date has been the Spartan Super race. Race distance varies but I like to stick within the 10-15km range.

What is your race day routine?
I like to get up early and do some stretching before heading out. I usually grab something light to eat (nothing too heavy for me), and then just head over to the event; getting there a little early always gets me pumped because everyone is just in that mood.

What is your most favorite piece of running gear?
Right now I am loving my Skechers Go Run shoes.

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your running?
I am not just a runner; I am also an avid weight lifter in the gym so I take many supplements such as omega-3, vitamin B12, multivitamin, glutamine, BCAAs, vitamin C and vega greens. I don’t follow a specific diet plan, I just eat clean.

What do you wish you’d known when you first started running?
I wish I’d known how much I would love it and that it would lead me into loving all things fitness. It would have been me on the fitness career path early on; fitness is my passion.

What is your fondest running memory?
I ran a half marathon in 2008 and I trained hard for it; when I made it to the finish. My sister was waiting for me cheering me on. Just having her at the end cheering for me made me feel so great.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
Most people don’t know that I have a degree from university majoring in French.

Here are all the different ways you can connect with Melissa!
