Runner Spotlights #16

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We've had a fun one so far! We spent Friday and Saturday with some great friends. That was very much needed to keep my mind off all the running I am missing out on this weekend due to this knee issue. The knee is feeling better with the rest. I'm hoping the next time I run it continues to feel ok.

It's time for another runner spotlight! If you're interested in being spotlighted on my blog please send me an email to mindy@roadrunnergirl.com!

Today I'm spotlighting Ashley from Dream Travel Canada! She works for this awesome company that is dedicated to taking runners, walkers, and spectators to races around the world! And what is awesome about Ashley...she is a runner too! Keep reading to learn more about her!!!

Name: Ashley Wiles
State: from Vancouver Canada, live in Bolivia!

When and why did you start running? I started running when I was about 6 years old because my school had a kilometer club and my parents and grandparents are runners who encouraged me and took me out to run!

What is your favorite race and race distance? I just ran a 28kms run in Bolivia up the Death Road “the world’s most dangerous road.” It was the MOST beautiful and most challenging run I’ve ever done. It’s 28kms uphill with an altitude gain of 2000 meters. Our company Dream Travel is taking runners who love to travel there next year, for anyone who is up for the challenge!

What is your race day routine? Get everything ready the night before like water bottles, after race gear, running clothes, shoes, etc. by the door and breakfast ready on the counter.  Then wake up early, make a protein shake, eat a banana and get out the door!

What is your most favorite piece of running gear? My Lululemon running crops.  I wear them for every run I go on. I even took extra time during my triathlon to put them on.

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your running? I eat lots of natural stuff like chia, maca, noni, oats, plain yogurt.  I love them and I think they give me so much energy and clean out my body from the inside.  I also take protein after I weight train to rebuild my muscles strong!

What do you wish you’d known when you first started running? That it is the best medicine for frustrations, anger, anything I need to retreat from temporarily and deal with in my head before I open my mouth.

What is your fondest running memory? My very first experience in a race was when I was 14, I ran the last 10kms with my Aunt, my mom and my uncle in the Vancouver Marathon.  I had so much energy and they were hurting (as normal in the last 10km of a marathon) but later they told me my energy got them through the last part of their marathon.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you? I work for a company called Dream Travel Canada. We are based out of Canada, however we take international runners, spectators, walkers, and running enthusiasts to different marathons and races around the world. In the next year we are going to New Orleans, Disney World, Antarctica, and Vina del Mar (Chile) among others!  www.dreamtravelcanada.com
